Artist Statement

"Art comes in many different forms, shapes, sizes, colors while exhibiting the entire spectrum of emotions. It is of the most complex or simplest form, yet in an essence carries as its message a common denominator, that very same substance that poets write about, classicist musicians longed for, vocalists sing and dancers dance to. Through all artistic endeavors they attempt to enter the human soul and pierce it with the various emotions we are blessed with as human beings. It is these GOD given traits that I celebrate and make part of my art. My approach toward this matter is instinctive, sincere and natural." - Julian Sula

About the Artist

Julian Sula is the very definition of the independent spirit. Born and raised in Albania, he started drawing at the age of five under the auspices of his father, a painter. At 14, he won second place in a national competition for drawing, and he received an honorable mention for his watercolor paintings in a European Youth Art Competition.

At 15, he relocated with his family to Greece for one year, before emigrating to the U.S. He studied fine arts with a concentration in painting (1994-1998) at the prestigious Center for Creative Studies College of Art & Design in Michigan and started exhibiting his work at nearby galleries including Flatlanders, Posner and Gallery Blue.

His early pencil drawings and watercolor paintings reveal his fascination with mathematical figures, dimension and precision until he loosened up and starting “drawing outside the lines,” so to speak, in order to convey the entire spectrum of emotions with charcoal, acrylic and even digital pixels on the computer screen.

Sensitivity and honesty are uncompromising traits of his nature when approaching his subject matter. He finds inspiration in the many complex tasks of life and tries to face them and document them as they come, with its beauty or harshness. He spends the bulk of his time creating art at his studio in Miami Beach.
