Get ready for the most anticipated art event of 2023 as Wynwood Walls, the iconic outdoor museum in Miami, unveils its spectacular Art Week extravaganza with the theme "The Power of Purpose."
Wynwood Walls, founded in 2009 by the visionary Tony Goldman, has earned global acclaim for its role in elevating street art. Now, under the expert curation of Jessica Goldman Srebnick, CEO/Co-Founder of Goldman Global Arts, it is set to take the world by storm once again.
One of the most anticipated additions to this year's Art Week lineup was the unveiling of a reclaimed subway car.
One of the highlights of this year's Art Week will be the grand reveal of a reclaimed subway car. This colossal 48.5ft x 9.5ft masterpiece has embarked on a remarkable 1,000-mile journey from West Virginia to its new home in Wynwood, just in time for Art Week. No longer bound to the tracks, it promises an immersive experience that will captivate Miami's locals and visitors alike.
Jessica Goldman Srebnick explains, "This interactive work is meant to further deepen the understanding of where the journey of the street art movement and graffiti culture began."
Prepare to be dazzled by an extraordinary lineup of featured artists for 2023, including The London Police, Greg Mike, Defer, Shok1, Lauren YS, Leon Keer, Sandra Chevrier, and Mojo. Art in 3-D form will play a significant role, with sculptures by Dan Lam and a towering 15-foot sculpture of Ron English's iconic character, "Temper Tot."
Jessica Goldman Srebnick, with over a decade of experience as lead curator, has scoured the globe year after year to bring together the most talented and passionate artists. She says, "The Wynwood Walls class of artists for 2023 represents a diverse and unique group of individuals who have made it their purpose to create meaningful work that pushes the boundaries of the art world."
In a nod to the future, Wynwood Walls has partnered with AR/T House, an app-less augmented reality platform. Four murals, including Shepard Fairey’s "Future Starts Now," Sandra Chevrier’s "La Cage-l'ombre de ton ombre," Buff Monster’s "Melty Misfits," and Millo’s "Work in Progress," will come to life with augmented reality layers, blending the physical and digital worlds to elevate the guest experience.
Exclusive artist events will take place throughout the week, featuring sculpture unveilings by Dan Lam and Ron English, a solo exhibition by international artist Kai in the GGA Annex Gallery, and "Street Sessions," a 30-minute "Watch & Learn" session where you can witness artists painting new murals inside the Walls.
Inside the main Goldman Global Arts Gallery, you'll discover canvas works by over 100 artists who have graced Wynwood Walls over the years. And don't forget to explore the Wynwood Walls Shop for exclusive artist product collections, allowing you to take a piece of this artistic magic home with you.
As the event unfolds, you'll witness Wynwood Walls come alive with vibrant colors and creativity under the Miami night sky. Join us as we celebrate not only art but also "The Power of Purpose," the driving force behind these exceptional artists who continue to inspire, create, and positively impact society. In the heart of Wynwood, be prepared to experience the transformative and unifying power of art like never before.
